Excursion Snapshot of norfolk tour at Norfolk

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

This compact 1.25-hour guided highlights drive offers a satisfying snapshot of Norfolk Island’s most significant landmarks, representing centuries of human and natural history. Several stops taken offer sweeping views and prime photo opportunities.

A motorcoach is your comfortable means of transport from stop to stop as your knowledgeable local guide will transport you back in time with stories of the early Polynesian settlement, waves of Convict settlement, and the landing of the Bounty Mutineer Descendants in 1856.

First up is Queen Elizabeth Lookout, where you can gaze down on some of the finest examples of Georgian architecture in the Southern Hemisphere at the World Heritage-listed Convict Kingston site. Afterwards, you’ll see the complex at ground level by coach on a drive along historic Quality Row and past Government House, the Military Barracks, Officers’ Houses, and the Convict Cemetery. Crossing aptly named Bloody Bridge, you’ll learn of Norfolk’s most heinous prison overseer and his well-deserved fate.

A solitary Norfolk Pine tree silhouetted against the Point Hunter waters at Lone Pine is a poignant and photogenic monument to the vast forests of old – and an ideal spot for viewing Emily and Slaughter Bays, where coral reefs teem with life under the surface. From here, you’ll travel to the 100 Acres Reserve and view 200-year-old Morten Bay Fig trees before circling back to the jetty.
