Excursion “taste of the arctic” foodie walk tour at Tromsoe

Taste your way through Arctic history and culture as you take a stroll around downtown Tromsø for a vibrant and tasty session, during which you will experience history and specialities from north of the Arctic Circle.

Begin your walk with a stop at M/S Polarstjerna, the Polar Star, which was built in Risør and launched in the spring of 1949. This ship had 33 fishing voyages, mainly in Vestisen and took its last trip in 1981.

Arriving at a Full Steam restaurant and museum enjoy a taste of Arctic specialities with stories about history of cod fishing. After tasting, you will have time to explore exhibitions of Northern Lights, Seafarer and Fisheries Museum and a Sea Sami Gallery.

Stop by Tromsø's Dom Church which was built in 1861 and is Norway's only Protestant cathedral built in wood and is in New Gothic, with its church tower and main entrance facing west.

Nearby lies Amundsens Monument, a statue of the polar hero Roald Amundsen. Amundsen had a close relationship with Tromsø, where the journey started with "Maud" to conquer the North Pole, and from Tromsø he started his last voyage when he traveled with an airboat in 1928.
