Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Experience breath-taking, 360-degree views from the summit of the Terevaka Volcano during this invigorating, half-day hiking excursion.

Vaitea, Terevaka, Guided Hiking Trek, Forests, Meadows

Depart the pier for the short drive to Vaitea, located at the centre of what was once a 19th-century sheep farm. Upon arrival, receive your safety and hiking instructions, then begin your guided hiking adventure up Ma'unga Terevaka (Mount Terevaka). Located in the middle of Easter Island, Terevaka is one of three main volcanoes on the island, with Poike and Rano Kao. Your approximately 1.5-hour, 3.1-mile (about five-kilometre) ascent of Terevaka passes through forests and meadows en route to its summit. At a height of approximately 1,680 feet (about 512 metres) above sea level, it is the highest peak on Easter Island.

Terevaka Summit, Free Time, 360-Degree Views & Photo Opportunities

Upon arrival at the summit of Mount Terevaka, some free time is made available to rest and marvel at the beauty of the island. Enjoy breath-taking, 360-degree views and photo opportunities, notice the shape of the island, and see the endless Pacific Ocean extending out to the horizon in all directions. Afterward, begin your approximately 1.5-hour, 3.1-mile (about five-kilometre) descent of Terevaka on-foot to your vehicle.

Ahu Akivi, Seven Statues

Along the way, pass by Ahu Akivi for a look at its seven moais (statues), which all directly face sunset during the spring and autumn equinox. Unlike other Rapa Nui ceremonial centres with ahu, the Akivi Complex is not located on the coast, and, in contrast to the monumental statuary at other sites on the island, the moais at Ahu Akivi face the ocean. Upon arrival at your vehicle, commence the short drive back to the pier.
